Day 5 | Prayer 1
Psalm 34:4 (CSB)I sought the Lord, and he answered me and rescued me from all my fears.
OBSERVATION
Let’s face it: no matter how old you are, life has a way of getting busy, stressful, overwhelming, and sometimes just flat out chaotic. And in those moments, when we should be calling out to God to help center us in Him, we neglect prayer. If we’re going to be honest, sometimes it’s because we’re so overwhelmed, fearful, or even frozen by a situation that we feel requires fancy words. You know, the “right” words, “right” feelings, or even the “right” moment to pray. But in this moment in scripture, David doesn’t say he waited until he searched for and found the right words or found the right moment. We don’t even know what words David used. But what we do know is that David simply prayed. He wasn’t looking or waiting for a “right” feeling; instead, he brought all his feelings to God. His fear, anxiety, and trouble, he brought all of it. David was depending on God to meet him where he was, in all of his feelings. And God did! God heard him and delivered him from his fears.Prayer may not always instantly change our situation, but it always changes our perspective. David knew that he couldn't carry it all on his own and that he needed God to carry the weight of those feelings. He needed God to meet him where he was because that was the only way he could make it. David is a great example to us that we don’t need to have it all together or be all “fancy” when we pray. We just simply need to pray and bring it all to God, no matter how uncertain, messy, or chaotic life might be. What do you need to seek God about? What fears, anxieties, or uncertainties do you need God to deliver you from?
APPLICATION
Prayer must not be something we do just when things feel out of control. God wants a relationship with us. That means daily connection and communication. We must make prayer a habit instead of a reaction. How can you start that habit today? It doesn’t have to sound perfect or polished. Just begin talking to Him and bring Him the things that you were never meant to carry on your own to begin with. When you do this, He will deliver you from it all.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for always hearing me when I pray. Forgive me for the times I’ve neglected prayer and tried to carry it all on my own. Thank you for meeting me in every moment of my life: the good, the bad, the chaotic, and the unknown. Teach me to make prayer a daily habit. Help me trust You with every fear, worry, and situation in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
