Day 1 | Intro
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
OBSERVATION
We all LOVE the THRILL of HYPE. The energy that comes from being in a CROWD. The EXCITEMENT that comes from a HIGH-ENERGY moment. Spiritually speaking it’s no different. We love those HYPE spiritual moments. Our heart feels like it’s beating out of our chest, the tears are flowing, the spiritual goosebumps are real. But what happens when HYPE fades? Because we all know that eventually, no matter how HYPE a moment is, eventually HYPE wears off. What should come next? The answer: HABITS. The definition of habits is: a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. Today, I want you to get this inside of your heart: HABITS > HYPE. Hype fades. Habits stay. Habits are what get inside of you and become a part of you. Paul explains in our passage that a part of following God is letting go of old behaviors & customs and allowing God to transform us into a new person. Are you ready to let go of HYPE and allow God to transform your life through HABITS?
APPLICATION
It’s important to understand that HYPE moments aren’t necessarily bad (spiritually speaking), but that we must establish HABITS to sustain our spiritual life. Habits are where we are “transformed”. What are some areas or times in your life where you have experienced great spiritual “hype” moments, but then done nothing afterwards to actually sustain growth? Ask God to give you a greater desire for HABITS over HYPE.
PRAYER
Dear God I thank you for the “HYPE” spiritual moments that I’ve experienced in my life. But today, I ask that you help me discover how to be transformed by something new. God teach me the power of Habits. I ask that you would transform my life through the power of habits. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
