Day 12 | Bible Reading/Memorization 4
Psalm 119:11 (NIV)“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”Joshua 1:8 (NIV)“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
OBSERVATION
We live in a generation that loves hype. We love moments that feel powerful, emotional, and exciting. Whether it’s at camp, youth convention, church, or even through worship music, we often chase experiences that make us feel close to God. But the truth is this: emotional moments can inspire you, but habits are what sustain you.A lot of people want a strong relationship with God, but in this busy and overstimulating world they struggle to spend even a few minutes in His Word and do it consistently. We want God to speak, but our Bible stays closed all week. We want him to give us new revelations but our habits aren't in check. We want strength during temptation, anxiety, confusion, and pressure, but we haven’t stored God’s truth in our hearts before those moments come.Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” You need to understand this most importantly: Scripture is not just information, its not just something you do so you can “know your stuff” if you ever find yourself in a theological conversation with another leader. Scripture is PROTECTION.. its GUIDENCE.. its STRENGTH, and its LIFE. When you memorize and consistently read the Bible, you begin filling your mind with His truth instead of the enemies lies, fear, temptation, or negativity.Joshua 1:8 also reminds us to meditate on God’s Word day and night. That kind of consistency creates spiritual growth. Real growth usually does not happen overnight through one emotional service. It happens daily through discipline and obedience.Hype fades. Feelings change. But habits rooted in God’s Word build a foundation that lasts. When difficult seasons come, the people who stay grounded are usually the ones who built daily habits with God long before any storm arrives. When you start your journey in deeper life of prayer I want you to understand this, you have to fight for your peace, you have to fight for that alone time. Ephesians talks about putting on the armour of God and in verse 6:15 it says, “And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace”. Did you know that the roman soldiers were the creators of the cleat? They would put large spikes in the bottoms of their sandals so when an enemy was pushing up against them they could dig their feet into the soil and keep their ground as their shields clashed against the enemy. You have to think about your peace in that way more times than not, you have to dig your heels in and fight for that peace that only comes from scripture.
APPLICATION
Start small, but stay consistent. Spend at least 20 minutes a day reading your Bible. When you read, block out all “noise” . Go find a quiet place where you feel at rest and leave your phone in a completely separate room. Portion your time so you also are listening to what Holy Spirit may be trying to reveal to you.
PRAYER
God, teach me to make prayer a daily habit instead of only coming to You when life gets hard. Help me become consistent in seeking You even when I do not feel emotional or motivated. Remove distractions that keep me from spending time with You and help me build a real relationship with You through prayer. Give me discipline to pursue You daily and remind me that every moment spent with You matters. In Jesus’ name, amen.
