Day 14 | Solitude 1

Matthew 14:23 “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.”

OBSERVATION

In this verse, Jesus intentionally stepped away from the crowds, the demands, and the noise around Him so He could spend time alone with the Father. Jesus often stepped away from public areas to find renewal in private prayer time. Even though people constantly needed Him, Jesus still prioritized solitude. This shows us that solitude is not isolation; it is a spiritual discipline that creates a place for rest, renewal, and deeper intimacy with God. We live in a demanding world filled with distractions. Phones, social media, responsibilities, and constant noise can easily consume our attention and crowd out quiet time with God. Solitude requires us to intentionally put away those distractions and find a quiet place where we can focus completely on Him. When we remove all the noise, God’s voice becomes magnified. We begin to hear Him more clearly because our hearts and minds are no longer divided by everything competing for our attention.  We must be intentional in our pursuit of hearing God. Sometimes we think of solitude as being alone. We view it as something negative and something to be avoided, but being alone does not mean being lonely. God promises to never leave us nor forsake us and we can trust that He is with us in our solitude. The purpose of solitude is not simply to be alone, but to create a place where we can hear from God through His Word and respond to Him in prayer. In solitude, God refreshes our hearts, corrects our thinking, and reminds us of His presence. Having quiet, personal moments with Him allow us to slow down enough to listen instead of rushing through life distracted and overwhelmed. When we intentionally focus on God’s voice, our minds become clearer and our relationship with Him grows deeper. We discover rest and  strength to continue walking faithfully with Him.

APPLICATION

What distractions are keeping you from spending intentional quiet time with God? This week, set aside daily moments of solitude by putting away distractions and creating a place  to listen to God through His Word and prayer.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to value solitude the way Jesus did. Teach me to step away from distractions and make time to be alone with You. Quiet my heart and mind so I can hear Your voice clearly. Fill me with Your peace, strength, and wisdom as I spend time in Your presence. Help me grow deeper in intimacy with You and learn to rest in You alone. Amen.
