Day 19 | Boundaries 3 (thoughts)

Romans 12:2 (NLT) "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

OBSERVATION

This scripture reminds us that transformation begins in the mind.  The world is constantly pressuring us through comparison, fear, negativity and distraction, but God calls us to think differently.  When we allow His Word to shape our thoughts, our minds are renewed and our lives begin to change.  What we agree with in our minds has power over us.  The thoughts we dwell on affect us spiritually, physically and emotionally. If we are constantly feeding our minds with worldly messages, our thoughts become cluttered and unhealthy. We become filled with fear, anxiety, bitterness, doubt and shame.  But as we fill our minds with God’s Word, we begin to think clearly and live differently.  We become more like Jesus!   We remember who God says we are and we take control of our thoughts.  We begin to have God Thoughts. Renewing our minds requires us to examine our thoughts.  We have to ask ourselves: - Does this thought line up with God’s truth? - Is this thought drawing me closer to God or farther away from him? - Am I believing the world, or am I believing God? The more truth and scripture we place in our mind, the more power we have to reject lies and unhealthy thinking.    Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." God doesn’t want us trapped by destructive thoughts.  He wants us to be transformed by the power of His Word (Truth). As our thoughts are transformed into God Thoughts, we can better hear God’s voice speaking to us and we can begin to fully walk in a Christ-like identity.  Having God thoughts will renew your mind, change your heart and your actions, and set you apart from the world.  What do I focus on? Philippians 4:8 says, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”  This is what should fill my mind.

APPLICATION

What thoughts have been dominating your mind?  Fear? Anxiety? Comparisons? Shame? Instead of agreeing with the lies , we can replace them with what God says: - God says He will never leave me. - God says I am chosen and loved - God is not done working on me yet. - God loves me. - God says I was created on purpose and with a purpose. Fix your focus on God.  Read His Word daily and allow Him to change and renew your mind.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to guard my thoughts and renew my mind with Your truth.  Show me the thoughts that have been influencing me in unhealthy ways and help me to reject the lies and replace them with Your Word.  Teach me to focus on what is pure, true and righteous.  Transform me from the inside out so my life reflects You instead of the world.  Amen.
