Day 2 | Power of Habits

2 Peter 1:5-8 (NIV)
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

OBSERVATION

Most of us would probably agree with this statement, “I would like to see some changes in my life.” We all have areas where we could grow, areas where we could get better. What we have to understand though is that changes just don’t happen. There is no magic button to push and “tada” all of the desired changes we want to see in our life just happen. Author Sean Covey says, “We become what we repeatedly do.” The outcomes we experience in our life, are largely determined by the choices or habits we make on a daily basis. HABITS have power. They make you OR they break you. Our verse today challenges us to ADD things to our life. Take faith as the starting point and ADD goodness, then ADD knowledge, then self-control, etc. etc. That’s the POWER of habits. Habits add things to our life - that is why they are so powerful! The more you STACK healthy habit on top of healthy habit, the more powerful they become. As we continue on this journey of discovering HABITS over HYPE we are going to be identifying key spiritual habits that will help your faith excel beyond your wildest imaginations.

APPLICATION

Have you ever considered how powerful habits are in your life? Stop and give some thought today of the habits (both good and bad) in your life that you have and the effect they’ve had on your life thus far.

PRAYER

Dear God I thank you that you have a purpose and a calling for my life. I ask that your Holy Spirit would teach me how to develop the right habits in my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
