Day 6 | Prayer 2
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (CSB)Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
OBSERVATION
There are three words that stand out and match each other in our scripture above: ALWAYS, CONSTANTLY, and EVERYTHING. These words imply absolutes. This means they are non-negotiables. They are without exception and should never be interrupted. When we think about HYPE we often have this type of all-in attitude, but we tend to lose it when we get into HABITS. We often think of habits like prayer as every now and then activities, but our scripture directs us that it is an all the time never ending activity. But how do we do that?! It can be hard to imagine how we could live our lives if we had to constantly stop what we’re doing, close our eyes, and pray. It seems much more likely that God wants to pray similar to how we breathe. We’re always doing it, another way of saying CONSTANTLY, but we sometimes don’t even realize it. We can talk to God all throughout our day in the big moments, small hassles, and everything in between. We can even practice this habit just like breathing. We can breathe out prayers of fear and breathe in prayers of peace. We can breathe out prayers of insecurity and breathe in prayers of confidence in Christ. Prayer can become such a habit in our lives that it can be a constant.
APPLICATION
How could you start praying constantly in your life? What things might you need to practice breathing out in prayer? What things might you need to breathe in?
